Celebrating the Arts
Since 1978

The Celebration of Creativity was started over 40 years ago by a small group at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton, Oregon. The goal was to meet the need of local artists for a recurring professional venue and to make fine art available and affordable to the community.

Our Story

Over the years, this showcase of local and regional talent has grown to become one of the premier art shows in the Portland area, famous for its beautiful presentation, a wide variety of media, and an ever-changing array of artists.

The Art Show Committee of Southminster works year-round to produce the Celebration of Creativity, inviting both emerging and established artists after jurying.

Our Mission

For more than 20 years, the Celebration of Creativity has provided money for scholarships and art programs as part of its mission to promote local arts by supporting art education. The committee has supported the Beaverton School District Arts Literacy Program for over 16 years with volunteers and donations.  Additionally, it has also sponsored three annual scholarships for outstanding high school student artists awarded by the Beaverton Arts Foundation.

Meet the Artist: Kathleen Duncan “Each piece I turn has to have a balance between touch, shape, proportion, and any embellishments. I have recently started turning very thin (2mm) bowls and piercing a design into them with a high speed dental drill. Much as I enjoy turning by myself, what gives me the greatest satisfaction is showing children the magic of woodturning.”

Meet the Artist: Judee Moonbeam “Wearable art should weave a story— like any painting would. I choose to take things a step further, forming inventive, yet functional garments and accessories. Ultimately, my focus is to reclaim discarded garments, store samples and similar to keep more textiles out of the landfill. Our ancestors reclaimed and rebuilt their garments. Why not us?” @judeemoonbeam

Meet the Artist: Kathleen Baker “The sources for my work are pretty diverse. I am drawn, sometimes unexpectedly, to certain forms, patterns, colors and textures. I find words and concepts inspirational. I’ve always been curious about the relationship between adornment and self-concept, and the potential impact on individual well-being, and I’m still intrigued.” @kbakermetalwork
