Celebrating the Arts
Since 1978

The Celebration of Creativity was started over 40 years ago by a small group at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton, Oregon. The goal was to meet the need of local artists for a recurring professional venue and to make fine art available and affordable to the community.

Our Story

Over the years, this showcase of local and regional talent has grown to become one of the premier art shows in the Portland area, famous for its beautiful presentation, a wide variety of media, and an ever-changing array of artists.

The Art Show Committee of Southminster works year-round to produce the Celebration of Creativity, inviting both emerging and established artists after jurying.

Our Mission

For more than 20 years, the Celebration of Creativity has provided money for scholarships and art programs as part of its mission to promote local arts by supporting art education. The committee has supported the Beaverton School District Arts Literacy Program for over 16 years with volunteers and donations.  Additionally, it has also sponsored three annual scholarships for outstanding high school student artists awarded by the Beaverton Arts Foundation.

Fine Art Exhibit & Sale

Meet the Artist: Val Hubbard “I begin the first layer with bright bold colors and continue laying down layers of paint. I sand, scrub and carve into the paintings bringing the initial layers peeking through....creating a new surface. I will see something that interests me and I’ll start my journey of telling the painting’s story.”

Meet the Artists: Sue Pak and Nathan Lawson “The images on each piece of jewelry are one of a kind works of art and no two are the same. The image is hand drawn/painted onto brass and then placed in a acid bath for etching. Following cleaning and polishing, each piece is metal then coated to protect it from tarnish or chipping. When you buy a piece of jewelry from us know that we back up the quality of our work and you will own something that is completely unique and one of a kind. Each piece of jewelry becomes your own wearable work of art!”

Meet the Artist: Sherry Bingaman “I have been obsessed with textiles and color ever since I started making and selling aprons door-to-door as a nine-year-old. I took my first weaving class as a textile major at Iowa State University and have been immersed in everything woven ever since. Silk is my fiber of choice, both for weaving and for dyeing. The folk art and colors found in Mexican, Central, and South American textiles are a constant inspiration. I never tire of playing with color and texture, often with a touch of whimsy.”

Meet the Artist: Kim McLaughlin “I am a watercolorist. I’m amazed with what a flexible medium it is. For every watercolor ‘rule,’ the opposite is also true. I was a graphic designer after an art school education at the Museum Art School (now PNCA) in Portland and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. I’m returning to mediums that had delighted me.”

Meet the Artist: Anne Johnson “I grew up in Colorado Springs so Pikes Peak always means home to me, no matter where I live. It was really important to me to include Garden of the Gods, if you look closely, you will see the Kissing Camels! This necklace is based on photographs I have taken through the years.”
